This happens in software. People try to imagine all the possible future uses so have a huge, conflicting set of requirements that is a massive undertaking to implement. Then the agile people just focus on what's needed now, using approaches that give them flexibility to change in the future. This is probably a key thing: when considering alternatives, prefer ones that leave flexibility in the future.
