No. Google will assume that is you and will associate all your alias posts to real you

[ - ] Reunto 2 points 3 monthsJan 31, 2025 07:36:42 ago (+3/-1)

Likely already does that.

[ - ] observation1 0 points 3 monthsJan 31, 2025 21:20:07 ago (+0/-0)

They'd have to know my alias first

[ - ] Reunto 0 points 3 monthsJan 31, 2025 21:53:59 ago (+0/-0)

Do you sign into your alias and use google from the same device?

Your device leaves a lot of fingerprints.

[ - ] observation1 0 points 3 monthsJan 31, 2025 22:54:34 ago (+0/-0)

Fingerprints only shared with google when I use my real name.

[ - ] Reunto 0 points 3 monthsJan 31, 2025 23:03:32 ago (+0/-0)

If you are using a phone, how did you buy your phone and phone service without giving your real name?

If a desktop computer, how did you make a contract with your ISP without your real name?

If you are using a VPN, how can you be so sure they aren't selling your data?

[ - ] observation1 0 points 3 monthsFeb 1, 2025 02:16:54 ago (+0/-0)

I didn't do any of things without giving my real name but I didn't use my alias, is my point.

Hey, here's a basic rundown on a type of fingerprinting: https://superuser.com/questions/840912/can-a-website-tell-what-device-youre-using

Did you also know that the terms of service for the onscreen keyboard / spellchecker leaks your data for 3rd party review?

Every time you are typing in your alias to login, someone somewhere will have access through the weird backdoors that exist in all modern tech.

Big pushes for "de-googling" a phone to limit this, but even if you take care of things like spellchecker, other methods exist

Even pinging off of cell towers for internet can gleam this data.

Well no shit.

Every year or so, I google my father’s email address to see if there’s still any trace of him online.

It is a tragedy that Google is a transient entity.

Google isn’t archiving and indexing the World Wide Web. Far from it: google picks and chooses which parts of the web are available to us and consistently trims older indexes. It’s a dang shame all the other search engines yield almost the same results.

Trope was a name I took back in World of Warcraft when I made a troll and started trying the word Troll but that was taken.

Always wondered what your name was about. Could mean a few other things. Mine is from the fact that I’m 1/4 Icelandic and have actually lived in Iceland. Not visited, lived. I find my username fairly meaningless in online searches and to your point, the interwebs purge over time.

[ - ] PotatoWhisperer2 2 points 3 monthsJan 31, 2025 02:14:45 ago (+2/-0)

all the other search engines yield almost the same results

Because most of them are a simple filter over a Google search result.

The other's copy Google's methods and code, making slight adjustments.

Nobody want's to spend the money/time to hire/move/support genius-level White engineers and give them the freedom to create something new.

Yandex

It’s similar to Netflix and streaming services.

Our neighboring town once had a privately-owned video rental store with a massive collection. It was essentially a library serving to archive as many films as possible. Whereas streaming services are tiny little curated selections of a much larger pool. Suppose someone could just create a simple search engine that indexes the entire known web.

I wish a video rental store could still be profitable because I’ve got a friend who told me he would run and manage it full time if we built it.

[ - ] Sleazy 2 points 3 monthsJan 31, 2025 13:58:22 ago (+2/-0)

[ - ] Peleg 2 points 3 monthsJan 31, 2025 14:16:55 ago (+2/-0)
