Very few are against taxes explicitly when they fund something of value but that tax has to be accounted for.

Your taxes should be assessed by use. How much do you use your police? How much do you use your fire department? How much energy do you consume etc etc.

There are 10,000 people in your village, the police budget is $10,000,000 per year, you have 3 people in your household, your tax is $3000 per year.
I bet if people actually had to pay the taxes for the services they use they'd demand that government be efficient and at no time would they accept corruption or bad service.
