When I get chickens I'm doing black solider flies and crickets. Cheap and easy protein for them.

Cool idea in theory.
In practice, it's kind of pointless, because chickens can eat just about anything a soldier fly larva will eat.
So, you might as well just feed the chickens whatever you are feeding the larvae.

I believe the point is that they turn the scraps into protein via their consumption of it. The scraps won't have much protein compared to the larva.
