Can I ask am I the only one who feels this way

submitted by GreenSaint to whatever 3 monthsJan 24, 2025 20:56:23 ago (+16/-0)     (whatever)

You know life is a series of events. There are things you look forward to. When these things come along I savor every second but it’s never enough. Then when it’s over I feel like it was always over. I feel like I was never there. Like I lived only the memory. Sometimes when I’m having fun I can only think about how this will end. Like being stuck in a perpetual memory of things that were fun but I can’t really hold onto. It makes me feel like one day I’m gonna look up and it didn’t matter. Cause it never really existed. I don’t know if I’m explaining it very well. I’m trying to. It’s only a recent thing in my life. I wish it would stop

That's what I think. The only thing you get out of it is the changes you make to yourself in response to the experience. It's like those people talk of prepping by learning new skills and habits. Those will go with you even if society collapses.

"The only thing you get out of it is the changes you make to yourself in response to the experience." That's called life. Practical application.

I remember when before leaving to italy to live for 6 months i sat on my bed and thought "6 months later i will be sitting on this bed exactly the same way, but only with memories how i was there". And 6 months later i did exactly that. Like nothing happened.
Nothing lasts. The more you get older, the more you start living in the past.

None of it matters. The fulfillment of the Lord is the only fulfillment we can truly ever hope to receive.

Also, take a cold plunge. That will make you feel great.

Man, I want to try a cold plunge. Many years ago I did a sweat lodge with some real Indians up in the Mendocino forest. We dammed up a creek to make a cold pool. The sweat lodge got up to 140 degrees. Then you go down and jump in the 50 degree water. I think I saw Jesus or Ozzy or something that night!

I did it for a year and got pretty good at it. You get in cold tap until you piss. That is when your kidneys flush and the first level of hypothermia. When you are starting, it takes maybe 15-20 min. After a while, nothing happens unless you get the water colder. At my best I got 25 minutes in a 45 degree plunge. That was about a year ago. I couldn't do that today.

You truly get a massive dopemine rush, it lasts a full 24 hours. The first 10 minutes is pain, then you feel absolute bliss. Then you gotta piss(when you don't think you need to) and that is your timer.

Great for cardio too. It really makes your blood pump and your heart work. Check with a doctor if you have a weak heart. Makes boners great.

I have a hot tub. The maker of my tub also makes cold plunge tubs. I think I’d rather do it at some place I go to in order to check it out. I’d do a run from the hot tub to a cold bathtub but I only have a shower.

[ - ] MaryXmas 2 points 3 monthsJan 26, 2025 12:20:26 ago (+2/-0)

Any place that has cold plunges will be pretty brutal for someone not used to it. But if you can find one, go for it. Maybe equinox?

Dopamine vs Serotonin.

But what you’re describing reminds me of a sentiment I once had when my life wasn’t busy enough. Weren’t you drinking outside talking to crackhead neighbors last month?

Are you fulfilling your life’s purpose to the best of your abilities and working toward your goals? Or are you giving your thoughts too much time to neander about - Creating problems for yourself with existential anxiety.

And take your magnesium. The lot of you all. Mg calmed my shit nicely and immediately.

[ - ] puremadness 3 points 3 monthsJan 25, 2025 04:50:54 ago (+3/-0)

is that what its (magnesium) fucking doing?

Been taking magnesium for awhile, always positive effect

Are you a Slav by chance? Guessing by your English.

Or old fag using voice to text but I don’t want to make assumptions.

Sounds like you are living passively and only doing things that don't require any skill. You are one of the losers.

Try doing things that require you to gain skills. Push yourself to new extremes. Your experiences and hobbies should change you. Then it won't just be a memory. You will be a better person than you were before.

I waited a year to catchbup with child hood mates today.

Travelled 5 hours to see them.

2 couldn’t be fucked to actually turn up.

Argued with the rest eho insisted that the destruction of our nation is natural rather than hostile action.

Im just bloody disappointed and also feeling guilty for bother to argue with them in the first place

This is why I think people should murder more often

[ - ] RMGoetbbels 1 point 3 monthsJan 24, 2025 23:38:13 ago (+2/-1)

It's depression. A nice fluffy wuffy kitty meowing at you when you get home fixes everything.

GET A CAT. Idk how many times I have to tell you! You will come to the Dark Side.

[ - ] oyveyo 3 points 3 monthsJan 25, 2025 02:01:11 ago (+3/-0)

Cat? Cats are ok except for those brain parasites they carry. I would go with goldfish instead.

[ - ] TheYiddler 0 points 3 monthsJan 25, 2025 06:01:11 ago (+0/-0)

The risk of brain parasites is overblown. Cats have to eat an infected mouse and then walk on your counter and then you have to eat of that counter. This all has to happen within a month of the cat eating the infected mouse.

I know what you’re doing. I don’t think you realize the hurt I put on those things. I think you think it’s a joke. It isn’t.

[ - ] RMGoetbbels 0 points 3 monthsJan 25, 2025 20:01:58 ago (+0/-0)

Thats the thing, you need to open up to love them and get their love.

[ - ] TheOriginal1Icemonkey 1 point 3 monthsJan 24, 2025 22:38:51 ago (+1/-0)

Sounds like you may be a “fun seeker”, meaning that you live for the events, the fun, the action. Much like a ride at the fairgrounds, once it’s over, it’s over.
Maybe seek more meaningful things for and in your life.?
Shit, idk.

[ - ] Looneyskiprooney 1 point 3 monthsJan 24, 2025 21:36:40 ago (+1/-0)

Savor each memory like having a cigarette after a good fucking.

[ - ] Krier55 1 point 3 monthsJan 24, 2025 21:22:34 ago (+1/-0)

I feel the same all the time
Try to savor even the smallest event

[ - ] Jerd34 0 points 3 monthsJan 25, 2025 09:16:38 ago (+0/-0)

This is why you absolutely must live in the present. It’s not as easy as it seems giving the current circumstances. And it’s by design. We miss the past and dread the future but we’re consumed by these emotions and we cannot be present. The solutions are within you.

[ - ] jfroybees 0 points 3 monthsJan 24, 2025 21:09:23 ago (+0/-0)

But having the memory of those wonderful times is proof that it was lived. Living in the moment is your task. And you aren't alone in this "regret" of knowing things change. I can say that getting older may make the body not what it once was, but our emotional/psychological state sure does settle down.

You are making memories and memories aren't nothing, ya know.

You deserve a reply from me...eventually.
