The real problem was that he was facilitating the use of a currency the government had no control over. By the rationale they used to prosecute him, they could prosecute the entire federal reserve because people use dollars to pay for illicit things. There have been a lot of illegal transactions that have occurred across most social media platforms, yet the owners of those platforms are not prosecuted.
