I swear time is moving faster

submitted by Smedleys_Butler to RealWhatever 3 monthsJan 12, 2025 21:14:23 ago (+22/-0)     (RealWhatever)

Maybe I'm just getting old, but sharing fragments of previous works, making sense and meaning of things. Time may be over, or broken. And I may be James Joyce reincarnated

The days still seem to just drag along, but the years fly by faster.

Feels like both lately

Time isn't linear, it's your perception. Time is a constant, in other words we are all trapped here doing the same shit for eternity.

I haven’t got time for this crap!

I found out only a few hours ago having little sleep disturbs your sensation of time. Your brain will not properly "tune in".

[ - ] Smedleys_Butler [op] 1 point 3 monthsJan 13, 2025 07:38:24 ago (+1/-0)

My sleep has gotten back to normal. I'm probably sleeping too much now

Circadian rhythms are a bitch

So are manic episodes

Yes, time flies when you're having one of those

As you get older, time seems to move faster.

Some have a theory of this. While a youngster, you don't have much shit crammed in you brain, and so you absorb a lot. As you get really old, you stop caring and are busy with the tedium of everyday life.

Ever notice that when you are driving someplace new, it takes awhile, but when you have driven it over and over, it seems like it doesn't take awhile?

Lunar Motion.

Ok when the Moon is moving fast in orbit around the Earth at perigee time will appear to be going faster, conversely when the Moon appears to be going slower at apogee so will time pass more slowly .. I have tested this hypothesis a few times and it does seem to have some basis in fact.

I've given this a lot of thought over the years. That is why time seems to be accelerating. The relative amount of time to the perception of times passage does seem like a good explanation but I think there might be another.
Time is supposed to be effected by gravity. Time could also have spacial properties as it is spacelike. I wonder if objects caught in a gravity well as we are on the surface of the earth might not be subjected in addition to a downward acceleration force, a similar acceleration through time that is not impeded by being on a solid surface so that our perception of time relative to our entry into the timestream is constantly accelerating and that it isn't just a perceptual illusion that time is accelerating but that it actually is relative to the moment we began to experience it.

The human race has been put on an electronic hamster wheel of dopamine addiction.

Someone I know recently called me to share that two days prior, time had snapped. He was ecstatic because we'd all get about ten years back.

I'm glad he finally got some help. Was released a few days ago and on meds. Whatever he has, is bad news. He is too old for schizophrenia so I'm thinking the vax did something to his brain.

[ - ] puremadness 1 point 3 monthsJan 13, 2025 03:32:58 ago (+1/-0)

You can be too old for schizophrenia?
That's interesting I did not know that and if you know more please do tell.

Go to dmv, the airport or sit in traffic and then tell me time is moving faster

As you age, you lose the ability to perceive time with the same resolution you once did.
Your brain is basically decaying...
The passage of time, as a lived experience, will continue to speed up for you until you've run out of it.

[ - ] 4thTurning 3 points 3 monthsJan 12, 2025 23:28:23 ago (+3/-0)

It gets worse

[ - ] Tallest_Skil 7 points 3 monthsJan 12, 2025 23:14:18 ago (+7/-0)

The brain processes the world logarithmically. This includes the passage of time. When you’re three, the first year of your life feels like one third of it (because it was). But when you’re 60, the first 20 years of your life feel like they were far longer than the latter two-thirds (because, by your perspective, they individually felt longer).

[ - ] CHIRO 5 points 3 monthsJan 13, 2025 08:34:41 ago (+5/-0)

This is also a function of learning. When you're three, there's a lot more that's new, literally new to your brain. New categories of experience, unexpected stuff, stuff you haven't conceived in order to formulate plans.

By the time you're an adult, you've spent most of your young life getting to a place where you make things predictable. This is a rough way of describing "success." Once you become responsible for other people, predictability comes at a premium.

Both you guys are correct. I think Hawking talks about it in Brief history of time. Only way to slow down the perception of time is having unique experiences and journaling

You douchebag!

[ - ] Kozel 2 points 3 monthsJan 12, 2025 22:36:49 ago (+2/-0)

My friend used to always say this. I think he was a wizard. He was shot in the head in a home invasion.

CERN fucked it up.

It'll be Christmas again soon...

[ - ] Smedleys_Butler [op] 3 points 3 monthsJan 12, 2025 22:44:39 ago (+3/-0)

Hopefully a less lonely one. You have any cute Aussie relatives looking for a green card?

[ - ] registereduser 3 points 3 monthsJan 12, 2025 21:54:52 ago (+3/-0)

When you were a year old, a year was your entire life.

At two, it was half of your life.

At ten, 1/10.

At fifty, 1/50th.

Years are literally shrinking as you age.

[ - ] Smedleys_Butler [op] 4 points 3 monthsJan 12, 2025 22:01:45 ago (+4/-0)

I'm trying to be thankful but too many regrets on my mind lately

[ - ] registereduser 4 points 3 monthsJan 12, 2025 22:23:48 ago (+4/-0)

Everyone should have regrets, some, like me, racked them up in spades.

Thing is to not let them become a mind virus, that will kill you.

Unless you are a faggot (not accusing), but if so, then let it kill you.

Learning when to not give a fuck is one of life's most important skills.

Sometimes I consider becoming gay out of spite. I'd get more dick than the golden girls

[ - ] ProudRebel 2 points 3 monthsJan 13, 2025 08:04:19 ago (+2/-0)

Maybe remind yourself you're human too. We all screw up. Do stupid stuff. Fuck up relationships. That's what humans do. I sure do. I've followed you on here for over a year and I think you're one of the good people.
