When you're 87 and your body is done, it's both expensive and cruel to force it to continue working. His argument form gets a D-, but hospitals are incentivised to keep a dying person in a coma alive to increase their total spend and profits.
The one time I was circumstantially forced to go to southern California, Ex's grandfather was dying in a SD hospital in a coma. Everything they did to him caused more things to go wrong. "We've done X, but now his organs are failing."
As the only one there who wasn't freaking out, I had to tell them to let him go and stop forcing his body to continue cascade-failing.
