1/4" to 3/8" is ideal, anything thinner or thicker doesn't get the right crunch to it. Some will argue 3/16" to 5/16" but that's because they're closet metric fags and mean 5 to 8mm.

Wait, crunch? What kind of bologna are you getting? Try some Lebanon Bologna if you haven't had it. It's an Amish bologna that's far superior/delicious to that crap they sell in stores. Unfortunately has the nitrates and all that, but is worth it once every few years.

Hungarian bacon is amazing. Any real traditional smoked/cured meats are amazing. That "bacon" from the grocery store is 50% water, that's why it's so cheap.
