I was going to ask "HOW IT"S THE MIDDLE OF FUCKING WINTER!" but then I noticed it's LA. Still impressive that they managed to have a wildfire in the middle of winter.

The first recorded eucalyptus planting in California was in 1853 at the Golden Gate Nursery. Plantings peaked during the "eucalyptus craze" of the 1870s and the "eucalyptus boom" of 1907 to 1913.
While eucalyptus trees are considered non-native to California, some say that only the red gum and blue gum varieties are invasive because they reproduce well enough to outcompete native species. The introduction of eucalyptus trees has had a significant impact on California's ecosystem, contributing to the decline of bats, honeybees, and amphibians.
They're great firestorm trees because of the oils, but they otherwise suck. They're everywhere, and they kill all other plant life that's near them.
