Care to explain unit of measurement on shoe sizes?
Or why size jumps from 43 to 44 (which represents a leap of 10.5 to 12), thereby screwing everyone with a u.s. size 11 or 11.5, which just so happens to be the most common shoe sizes in the western world?
Maybe you can explain what the 43 or 8 equivalent actually means and tell us why you aren't using mm here and why you can't agree on a unit of measurement for feet size, Which is a classic measurement relevant to our own body - because it literally is.
I was referring to the metric system.; Charles Maurice de Talleyrand-Périgord and the Conférence générale des poids et mesures to be (over) specific :)
If this is about the shopping cart situation, allow me to explain: most commercial wheels on carts, dollys. etc have a integrated bolt as part of the wheel assembly. It is held onto the cart with a nut. One needs a 13mm socket to remove the nut, which then frees the wheel/bolt assembly for theft (KOZEL). Nobody gives a shit about the bolt part.
Out-to-out bolt thread diameter is used for referring to bolts since we engineers use that measurement to perform shear strength calculations. All bolt heads are naturally a larger diameter (flat to flat or point to point) than the bolt itself.

Right, which is another reason why it's dumb to call the bolt size by the wrench size. It doesn't account for different head sizes like heavy hex, or different head styles, Hex, torx, cap...

You are correct. M13 is a non standard bolt size. I'm sure you could find it in some sort of specialty applications, but generally it goes M9 M10 M11 M12 M14 M16 M18 and so on.
I've caused a stir on some forums and in some chat trolling about how there's no even metric drive standard for sockets. They're all 12,7mm (1/2"), etc. They start hemming and hawwing quite amusingly.
Everyone always argues over metric vs imperial, but why doesn't anyone care about our hexadecimal time system? Why do all these metric-lovers accept a 360 degree circle? Why aren't they all scrambling to abandon that much older system?
Toyotas are assembled with 10mm bolts. Like every single one. Now 13mm are on the shopping carts I disassemble when a homeless person is strung out on drugs. I take off all the wheels.

A EU men's shoe size 42 corresponds to a US men's shoe size 8.5 (foot length is about 10.25").
How is that French?
