The lights in the sky dont determine the dimensions of the ground. If the earth was a ball their could be no topographical changes and the earth would have to be smooth and displaying curvature at all times.

Boats dissapear hull first due to linear plane perspective.

Ask a landscape portrait artist why they also draw boats dissapearing hull up on the horizontal horizon when they paint ships out at sea.
