Having a first pregnancy after 35-40 years old is less than ideal, I would say 42 is way past the time when someone would be able to meet a man, develop a relationship, and have babies.
I had my first baby at 30 years old, and am pregnant with my 4th at 40 years old. One huge difference between someone pregnant with their first at 40 is that I would stop menses for 9 months (during each pregnancy), and then menses would not return for at least 6-9 months after baby was born (because I exclusively breastfeed, which delays menses returning). Also, my body has experienced pregnancy hormones before so it knows what it's doing. I will say that pregnancy is definitely a lot more difficult on my body at my age (at 30 I was still dancing ballet and doing cartwheels at 6+ months pregnant, lol). I was lucky enough to be very fertile and it did not take much trying to get pregnant each time. My friend started trying to get pregnant in her very late 30s and ended up having to get a lot of IVF/intervention, and she most likely will only have the one child she is pregnant with now because it took her until 42 years to finally carry to term. Then again, there is someone in our "healthy" community that just had a natural childbirth at 57 years old!!! I'm not sure how many previous kids she had though.
Nowadays people are definitely waiting too late to have babies. Especially with how crappy most of us treat our bodies, and with all the environmental toxins that are so pervasive.
