There is a difference between todays ashkhenazi jews and the jews of the late second temple period. Genetically . But it isn’t the one you think. Ancient jews were true middle easterners, close to todays palestinians. Ashkhenazis and other jewish groups are heavily mixed with the genetics of their host nations. Ashkhenazis are 50% european.
