I don't know why this would be controversial among Protestants. What, do people think Jesus came toting the KJV? Open a fucking book other than the Bible; the history of the development of the canon, while far from complete, is pretty well-attested. After Constantine, it was the Catholic show in Europe for over a thousand years. Where would they think it came from?

sorry but that's a half truth. the catholic church had the bible but it could be only read in latin to the masses that didnt understand the dying language.

the faithful only had one recourse but to go to the priest for "salvation" and to pay for the latin mass in order to get in to purgatory since according to catholic theology "only the saints" could go straight up to heaven. the rest of the rabble had to go to purgatory despite of complying with the sacraments and other duties imposed by the church.

this is why the reformation happens.
