I was there on the 30th anniversary of the end. Picked up my 'Vietnam era Veteran' status that year, but got sent to Germany instead.

My barracks were converted into apartments, and the whole base is just another Aschaffenburg neighborhood now. 318 on the 3rd floor corner was my room, along with 3 others. Exchange rate was 2.56 Marks to the Dollar then.

We had to run on the city streets every morning, and on a corner along that curved road on the right there used to be (gone now) a 3' metal pipe in the sidewalk that would catch the unwary and hungover right in the balls.

My dad was stationed in Bamburg. He and my mom used to have their parents send Levi’s, peanut butter and shoes to sell. I’m talking to him right now and he bought a car for 20 cartons of cigarettes and two gallons of whiskey 😂
