all-in-one is garbage.

Don't.

Get a refurb think center from Lenovo or NewEgg, install Debian, profit.

I've had an all in one touch screen Toshiba for 11 years now and the only thing I've switched out is the HDD to SSD.

My advice is don't store anything unless temporary on the computer hard drive.

Get an external for all your files.

And don't create a million shortcuts on your desktop this bogs down your CPU and causes computards to say "mai pooter is slough aye need Nuwon!"

Minus the obvious fail points with laptops and towers etc power supplies, fans and motherboards.

These tips can make your pooter future proof albeit not idiot.

I've had an ASUS laptop bought on sale at Best Buy for 11 years. Its starting to get buggy. Audio disconnects and I have to restart it to get it back. Takes a long time to turn on sometimes. I have 6 shortcuts. that shouldn't affect it right?

I always have a fan on anyway. I mean like a desk fan blowing directly at me and the laptop.

Yea the audio on my PC is flaky also.

I worked around that by getting an HDMI to 3.5 audio jack.

Best thing to do when the puter slows down for now apparent reason is blow away the current OS and reinstall it.

After that's done take an image of the hard-drive or SSD with all the programs you use.

Then use that image as a backup when your shits all fucked up and you sound retarded.

An all-in-one has basically the same hardware as a laptop, with just a few minor differences.
Some of the ones I have seen at Costco are pretty nice. If your whole use case is just surfing the web and other minor tasks, I'd just get some mid-range one off the shelf at Costco or best buy.

my sister has had a few all in ones and most have crapped on her because of poor ventilation

More than likely user error

[ - ] dosvydanya_freedomz 0 points 4 monthsDec 18, 2024 14:44:45 ago (+0/-0)

probably but i still dont trust these type of computers. i'd rather have a tower instead or a laptop.

[ - ] Clubberlang 1 point 4 monthsDec 22, 2024 13:20:14 ago (+1/-0)

I like towers over laptops also but portability always wins out for me.

I completely understand

Not sure what you are after.

You want a 28" screen laptop?

Okay, I didn't realize those were a thing. Looks shit.

Just build a mid tier desktop.

https://www.apple.com/imac/

Other computers might be cheaper, but can you afford them? I have a new one too, but my 11 year old still works just fine. (despite 297 tabs atm) Pretty much zero tinkering required.

[ - ] Trope 1 point 4 monthsDec 19, 2024 00:42:15 ago (+1/-0)

I also suggested the iMac although the colors on the latest lineup may be a deterrent.

Apple makes a simple product which is great for general users. These days, I stick with Macs because I don’t care anymore and deal with Microsoft bullshit at work.

HP? Do you trust that brand?

[ - ] con77 [op] 0 points 4 monthsDec 19, 2024 07:48:23 ago (+0/-0)

I know nothing about them. Fill me in

Having built so many computers in my days, I would suggest investigating a used or new Macintosh.

The aluminum body looks good as it looks more like a monitor than a computer. The Unix operating system is so locked down, you’d be hard pressed to fuck it up.

While I’m only one person, the one thing I can speak on regarding Macs is their longevity. Anyone who doesn’t care about computers, I would suggest a Mac.

I can’t do Windows anymore. XP was peak computing and those days are so far behind us.

If you said you were an enthusiast, I wouldn’t suggest a Mac at all. But as a general user, Apple makes a fine product.

Eh, just googled the iMac. Gayest shit I’ve ever seen. They really fucked up that product line.

Then don't get the ASUS Scar 16 2024 G634.

One option is to go to a very small business computer repair shop. Have a "must have" list with you (unless your entire list is just the screen size). Since you want a low- to mid-end computer, the shop might have a used computer right there, otherwise most likely have the parts to put one quickly together for you in a few hours. Only getting the parts you want will save you a lot of money.

E: Also, if you get a wireless mouse and keyboard that uses a USB dongle, get a USB extender. The disconnects are annoying even if infrequent.

Don't get an all in one.

You can get something similar to an Intel NUC and mount it to the back of a monitor.

HP through AMAZON looks interesting.

HP is total junk, always has been. Lenova.

You have to time, learn something and build one.

[ - ] HonkyMcNiggerSpic 0 points 4 monthsDec 18, 2024 13:37:31 ago (+0/-0)

The price of those fuckin things is insane. The HP with 2 terabytes and 16 gig is pretty damned decent for what it is. I think walmart sells them.

[ - ] dosvydanya_freedomz 0 points 4 monthsDec 18, 2024 11:33:01 ago (+0/-0)

whatever you finally get. dont get a 13th or 14th gen intel system. those are ticking bombs due to design flaws in their ships

get an older CPU or an AMD processor and plenty of ram if your system doesnt have a dedicated GPU

while 16 gb can help with with most tasks still...32 or 64 will be better for future proofing

also avoid the AI chips like the pest they are
