A lot of plants have fluid catalyst crackers which make a shitload of naphtha from heavy oils and it’s not to make more gasoline. It’s to crack that naphtha into aromatics like xylene, toluene and benzene. The leftovers that can’t be cracked or if they produce more than can me cracked into aromatics gets blended with octane boosters and sold as gasoline.
