Linux Network Manager

I've used the default "Network Manager" since I began using Linux. I really don't like Network Manager, as I've found it to be highly erratic! What have you guys used that's been rock solid?

Good Recommendation, But I need something that works on both Wired & LAN.

Wired has always just worked for me with minimal Debian installations on IDK, maybe 20 computers, about half of them being laptops.

Are you pretty happy with it? Any issues or concerns with KNetworkManager?

no it works fine

would be better if it had profiles i could set up and quick load

I need to do a deep dive into the various Network Management utilities available to Linux users and find one with greater utility. The basic Network Manager that comes with my mainline Linux distributions, "Network Manager", is ok, but every now and again it develops a mind of its own.

nmcli tool, version 1.22.10. Linux Mint, standalone computer. Won't say rock solid, one of the updates caused my printer to not funtion, and for a couple of weeks had to print via my phone. So I'd laboriously email a pdf to myself via disktop, open and print it on the phone.

Finally gave up, nuked and repaved the OS and my Brother is a Brother again.

Everything is a crap-shoot with Linux...

I did a recommended update and rebooted, and I had to re-image it...

its a crap shoot only until it gets figured out, then you know your shit for like 15 minutes and something else stops working.

I find nmcli is more difficult to use than it should be, but yea NetworkManager sucks.

Write stuff down. I have a lot of txt files and they help.

Funny how it all works out.

I dedicated so much time to learn computers to make a decent wage.

Now I use a part of that wage to never have to deal with another fucking computer as long as I live.

From your Linux commandline enter nmcli -v OR nmcli -v

you should get a response similar to: nmcli tool, version 1.36.6

personally I've found networkmanager to be rock solid. Integrates with desktop environments, handles vpn, etc.

Guess if you were looking for more control, living in the console or on a server could use something like systemd-networkd and systemd-resolved (the latter can work automatically with network manager as well and is decent for DNS over TLS etc).
