Sorry to hear about your loss…..it hurts so bad to lose a dog if you’re the kind of dude who spends most of his free time hiking, relaxing and playin around with that dog for years on end. I’ve lost a direct family member, and honestly, it hurts just as bad to say goodbye to your best 4 legged friend. A lot of people don’t get it, but there isn’t a creature on earth who loves you quite like your dog does, it’s unconditional in the truest sense of the word, it really isn’t something you can find anywhere else in life other than with your parents IF you’re lucky. My condolences, fren. All I can say is, don’t be afraid to bring a new friend into your household in the near future, it will help ease the pain you’re feeling now, and anyway, you only get so much time in life to build friendships that meaningful, so keep that in mind.

I would randomly cry even a year after we put our good boy down. It took us almost 2 years to be ready for a new dog. She's a bit of an annoying retard, but I try to remember that in 10+ years it's going to destroy us when she crosses over and to have more patience. Right now she's sleeping on the bed with my son, and our kitty is sleeping on the bed with my daughter.

There's an old wives tale that the first few nights after their death, you're supposed to open your door and call their name so they can find their way home. After our last cat passed I swear we heard her meowing outside our door a night or two later.

Wishing you the best- it's going to be tough, but it's tough because you loved them.

I'd say it gets better but for me it doesn't, I still miss all my animals. Each and every one.

The thing I like about pets is that you can murder with them and they'll never rat you out. Dogs are like, "hey? Are we playing that game again?". Cats are like, "yeahhh, I'm going to hide until the screaming is done and then you can pet me again".

When I was 12 my parents were both at work , my 13 yr old dalmation had a stroke or or something - couldnt move and only track one of her eyes on me ; pissed where she was laying and I couldnt get ahold of anyone . Broke my heart .

Sucks bro. I just lost my cat of 16 years a week and a half ago. He was a good boy too. Had a bit of a dog spirit to him, used to play fetch when he was younger and would greet me when I came home. Losing a pet sucks, if you take good care of a cat or dog they'll be a loyal friend for life.

Lost my labradork 3 years ago to explosive heart cancer. He was a great dog, super smart, very kind (especially to children) but just enough of an asshole to make things funny.

The pain doesn't entirely fade but it does get better over time. Make a text file and write down what you liked and will miss about your pup. It'll help with closure. Eventually, you'll find another dog to share a portion your life with and make immensely happy.

My wife moved to an assisted living facility in 2021. She left me responsible for her four dogs. I didn't want them, but I acquiesced. I had to put two of them down, one last year and one this year. It tore me apart each time and I still well up thinking about them. I made a point of being by them, holding them, until they were gone. They were good dogs and I owed it to them to be by their side until the end.
