Probably. The Ahnenerbe is quite sensationalized. 300 Archeologist isn't really 'war winning' stuff either - my guess is Himmler was a bit of a history buff and had those guys parked there as SS officer in order to keep them safe from being drafted and sent to die on the front...

On the other hand we have no idea what they might have found in the Caucasus.
