I used to be a bartender

I would share this statement with folks who I felt were abusing alcohol:

When you drink, you're stealing happiness from tomorrow.

Your logic seems legit!

Then the following day you beat your wife, because she needs the lesson and you don't want to have two bad days so you do all the chores on sunday.

You must have been a terrible bartender!

But seriously, this is really how alcohol works. Alcohol floods your brain with feel good neurotransmitters but when you sober up, you experience a deficiency resulting in depression and anxiety. When I was a drinker, I felt like I couldn’t enjoy sober reality. I thought that condition was inherent to me but it was just caused by an emotional dysregulation created by alcohol. I began enjoying real life much more after I quit.

There’s no extra happiness inside the bottle. The happy feeling is produced by your brain and the consequence is increased depression during your sober periods. In fact, some research shows that chronic alcohol consumption actually decreases levels of prostaglandin E2 and natural opioids in the brain which means there is a net negative effect on your mood. The catch 22 of alcoholism is that the drinker tries to “fix” the depression with the cause of the depression, booze. The worse you feel—>the more you drink—>the worse you feel, and so on. Its totally insidious.

Best bartender.

Translation of above post- You're taking up a seat with your penny shots and scaring off the hot chicks. Get the fuck out.

But nicely.

We can't have this alliance going on here with you two! You two need to separate, like the GhostBusters not crossing their proton pack streams...

I can already see the pain that's coming with you two teaming up like this:

I'm going to have to warn the rest of the gang to "Be afraid, Be very afraid..."

We disagree on a few things (coffee, namely) but I can appreciate her and the walls of text that come with her.

We drove @NukeAmerica to the brink once. That was funny, good times.

iSnark: Retreating to the fallout bunker, in fear for what's coming with you two...

Agreed.

I remember my wife took me out for my birthday while we were dating. It was a wonderful time but my mood was just awful. It’s because I was sober that day.

If I could go back to that day, I’d have quit drinking and loved her more.

…or I’d have started that day day drinking. lol

I'm sure people at a bar really want a lecture.

The alcoholic falls into a cycle of debt.

I suppose that statement could also apply to procrastination.
