I saw elsewhere that even if sleepy "pardons" preemptively, that doesn't absolve anyone of a charge and a trial. They can still be tried and convicted, with all the evidence exposed, as well as all the accomplices.
You don't really believe that do you? Once a president issues a pardon, that is the end of the argument. There are no "Backsies" in a presidential pardon.
How in the world do you pardon someone for a crime thry have not been found guilty of? Is biden and the democommies admiting to crimes before convicted?
Because nobody seems to understand how presidential pardons work. It's completely within their power to issue a pardon, even if there's no conviction or even an indictment. If they haven't been convicted yet, it removes that as a possibility, so it's a form of protection. If they haven't even been indicted, it makes an indictment worthless because they can't go to trial, since there's no possibility of conviction.
But issuing a blanket pardon like that IS a tacit admission of guilt, even if they can't be judicially punished for it. And if you accept a pardon, it also means you can't claim 5th Amendment protections with respect to those charges. So if there are others involved, then you can be compelled to testify against yourself (as there's no danger of conviction/incarceration at that point, making the 5th Amendment moot) if they want you to tell everything you know so they can convict your co-conspirators. And without the 5th Amendment protections, you can be held for failure to appear/contempt, or locked up for perjury if you lie.
The beauty, however, is that now that the pardonees are immune from convictions, they can be forced to testify and have no 5th amendment right, so they have to talk. Also if they committed concurrent state level crimes they can be got for that.
