For me, I had been really big on podcasts during the mid to late 20-teens. I would listen to them throughout the day at work on an ipod through wired earbuds. I was a Finance-Bro working at a Global Multi-National Corporation, (Everyone here has heard of them), and I was pretty damn good at what I did, I managed the due-diligence on multi-hundred-million dollar asset packages. I would regularly be on conference calls with the top tier of Gobal Finance Elites world-wide.
This allowed me a great degree of freedom, as I took this project over from a guy that was not as aggressive as I was, and I was able to dramatically increase the profitability of these packages many-fold. I had a great degree of freedom, and was able to push the envelope as far as they would let me. Very rarely, would I get my wings clipped, but it did happen on occasion. I was getting bored of my regular podcasts, and I searched for podcasts that dealt with subjects that I was specifically interested in, in the search results, was a podcast named "Those Conspiracy Guys" I started listening to them. In this one particular episode, they mentioned being on VOAT, and so I later looked VOAT up from home, and signed up, and I've been here since.
That's what brought me to original voat. Then it shut down and poal was the go-to but it got fucked up by the retard running it. Somehow, somebody linked to the new voat there and I've been here ever since.
Keeping information in little bubbles works directly in the fauxlites favor. Get the word out far and wide holy cow sitting on it like youre on santas lap and then complain how things are doesnt make sense at all but the fake elites approve.
Fair point! I should have been out there in front of my work place wearing a two-sided sandwich sign that read "The Jews control everything" on the front, and a "Mortys' Deli" advertisement on the back...
Gamergate, back in 2014. I was heavy into commenting in the KotakuInAction subreddit for the first couple of months. Then when it became obvious that Gamergate on Reddit was a bunch of limp-dicked, left-leaning faggots, who fixated on "ethics in game journalism", instead of the far left nuts and jews at the heart of the problem, that I heard about old Voat and migrated there. This was also around the time that Coontown and other fun subreddits were getting shoah'd hard and fast.
I had been visiting Stormfront since 2001 or 2002, but Voat was more fun. Stormfront felt more like sitting around with a bunch of boomers in a place where you weren't allowed to say kike or nigger. Yeah, the world's largest white nationalist website, and you can't say nigger, because optics... Now I might visit Stormfront once a year, if even that often.
I remember my buddy telling me to get off Reddit and get on Voat back in 2014 about. I joined but it seemed like it was all politics so I stayed off both sites for a while. The extent of my political beliefs were: “Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty” is probably completely true and everything I learned from the first two Zeitgeist films although Peter Joseph was a liberal faggot.
2019, my other buddy starts texting me: “The holocaust never happened.” As I’ve always known him to be a smart fellow, I was completely intrigued and responded: “Tell me more.”
I hope these buddies are still on here. Good ol’ Asshole 1 and Asshole 2.
A friend at work told me about Coontown on Reddit. I used to go on there for maybe 6 months before it got banned. Many of the members mentioned Voat, so I migrated over.
It took me another year or two to finally get open to the JQ.
Back when reddit was going full retard, I heard of woahverse, where I could say nigger if I wanted to. I went through the transition to OG voat, survived past the dark christmas, was split between new voat and poal, poal had more features so I went there most of the time until that kike niggerchink AOJew fucked the place up, and then I migrated back to here.
I've always been a forum shit poster. Back in like 05 or 06 I discovered digg.com. Loved that place until they ruined it with the v4 update. I migrated to reddit along with everyone else from digg. Back then reddit was great. It was unironically referred to as a "bastion of free speech". And it was. Eventually that changed and I came across a thread of other frustrated redditors talking about voat.co. I deleted my reddit account and never looked back.
Fuckkk now I am super nostalgic for the old voat.co days. I miss it.

Thanks system, It's great getting to read about how you ended up at VOAT. Did you ever think when you were at reddit, that you would someday be in charge of a forum like this?
I've dreamt about it. I tinkered with html and php as a kid and ran various small message boards here and there. I actually had a pretty successful wiki site which got absorbed into Curse. By the time voat started having issues I figured I had the knowledge to replicate it but I didn't want to deal with the headache. I only did it out of the necessity of it shutting down. At that point my love for web dev was long dead and the internet as a whole had changed into something I was no longer passionate about.
Computer technology in general was more organic back then, Software folks had more autonomy in their jobs, but, like everything else, less and less control was given to the Developer/Programmer, and what used to be a creative and rewarding discipline became a soul-sucking exercise in boredom.
I've never been a Programmer or Developer myself, my mind never worked that way, I was more on the Hardware side of the house when I first started out in Technology, before I moved to Technology/Finance. As I moved up in my Career, I worked pretty closely with Software Guru's. Some were better than others, but, throughout my career, I saw a gradual transition where Developers/Programmers were getting more & more boxed-in, and had less of the autonomy that they had previously enjoyed. As time went on, it seemed like they were recycling more code than they were writing.
Well, thanks for adding your story to this. I've wondered how folks to find the original VOAT. And there are some good origin stories among the submissions. I find it interesting, the influence that reddit had in bringing this community together.

Yeah. The barrier to entry is much lower these days with libraries which contain all the most common types of operations. Even lower now with AI. Back then you had to actually be smart.

I find it interesting. I assumed most people came from reddit. Back then migration waves would bring it lots of users. This site hasn't experience anything like that. Just the initial wave on release. Most good people have already left reddit.

Yeah, Back when I was in the game, it was inconceivable that Programmers & Developers would ever be disenchanted with their jobs, or, be worried about employment. But I guess it's no different than what happened to the Mainframe Wonks. Though, those guys are needed pretty frequently, and are still in demand today to assist with migrations and such.

I guess over the past recent years, there have been a number of VOAT-like forums that sprang-up, and even some of those have already gone by the wayside. As sites mature and burn out, we should expect to see some sporadic growth here & there. Not amazing numbers, but maybe, new Id coming through.
I was on Reddit and I didn't like the censorship. I was a blue libertarian and knew very little about the world. In my mid 20s I was unemployed for a while and realized that those government programs didn't help any of those whites.
Some great warrior made a post on glp something like “check the goat.co site and change the g to a v” at the end of ‘15 and I saw it before it got deleted. The rest is history. Legendary goat, whom ever you are, I thank you. I can’t believe that was nine years ago. Holy shit.
I think JFK's exit from this world was the clue that things aren't what they appear to be, and from there, it was one domino falling after the other. Once you understand how the world works, Nothing surprises you anymore...
Were you a goon on the SomethingAwful forums? I wonder how many literal kikes from there (and here!) are sent by direct order from Israei agencies and other disgusting jew groups.
Was a big Reddit user back when read it was actually really good in the beginning before it was subdivided into subreddits and before they were even moderators or at least acknowledged moderators. But then they started banning people who talked about fat people and somewhere it was mentioned that the original voat had a subreddit where you could properly shame people who had eaten too much and were gluttonous pigs and thus I discovered the original voat.

Thank you for the opportunity to talk about myself. I got banned from the Guardian Newspaper's Message Board (said the reason a female commenter didn't have a boyfriend was because she had a fat bum) and shadow banned on Reddit for expressing views that were not received well by other commenters. So I searched the Internet for other Message Boards and came across Voat where I was welcomed with open arms as a Free Speech Warrior! Yes!
A former reddit refugee... It surprises me, exactly how many came to VOAT because of reddits' stupidity. But it is nice to have a space to interact with people that are solid.
Dude, some of this doesn't stack up imo. You were a high-flyer in the Finance world and yet...you found the time to:
"I would listen to them [podcasts] throughout the day at work" "I was getting bored of my regular podcasts, and I searched for podcasts that dealt with subjects".
Work and relaxing at work tend to be mutually exclusive!
"I would listen to them [podcasts] throughout the day at work"
Yes, I spent a great deal of time between meetings pouring over spreadsheets, and doing deep-dives into databases. So I had the bandwidth to listen to podcasts. Of course it wasn't an all day long podcast listening party, I had to be on calls, I had to get big and rattle cages to get things done, so there were times and days whence I couldn't put the earbuds in, but, there were many opportunities where I could.
"I was getting bored of my regular podcasts, and I searched for podcasts that dealt with subjects".
This was done at home, I'd load up the podcasts so that I had something to escape into as I poured through databases and did spreadsheet magic...
I was losing access to subreddits that were being banned, I was being banned from subs if I wasn't careful.
Then they fired Victoria, then, or just before......I don't remember, the admin got caught deleting posts he didn't agree with without notification.
The came Chairman Pao and some user created a script that wiped your post history from reddit and left in it's place a message that you were going to voat and why.
I lurked at voat for 3-4 months, clinging to reddit because it was just so slow at voat. I finally got fed up and deleted my account at reddit and created one at voat.

It's incredible the lengths reddit went through to get rid of us. I'd love to see them get there ass handed to them! I'd like to see Elon Musk go after them!
Reddit was awesome in 2012 or so but there was a slow and subtle shift.
It's unimaginable now but there were subs dedicated to hating niggers. You always had to fight the holohoax lies though, and risk being shadow banned for wrong speak.
From an IRC chat shortly after GamerGate - despite not watching Reddit personally, Voat was being floated as a free speech alternative and I took a look at it.
Actually that must have been around the time Digg killed itself, although I forget whether that was the first time or the second time.

I mentioned it a few times in my responses back to those that replied to this post, that it's surprising how many came to VOAT via reddit of all places...
