The irony is that they could have rearranged the stores to only allow access to the checkouts, have every item brought from the back, and forced people to prepay to stop the theft, but they would still go out of business because they lose all the impulse buying which is why modern stores are organized and laid out the way they are. They would shutter due to a decrease in profit margins even though they're making money.
