backstory

I like that it was just that: A slow, mysterious drip feed on the setting over the series.

When it comes down to it, the movies are all about the gunplay/combat and the story is tetriary, similar to oldschool videogames like DooM or Quake. It was an excuse plot, yet a mildly interesting one.
