Ive run into them a few times on dog walks. I make a 180 and go the opposite way. This mamma was very bold to approach a person with the babies in tow.

Went into this thinking we were about to see a cyclist get sprayed.

Then realized it was just a dude on a mountain bike riding on a trail. That could be any one of us as it is far removed from the image of a yuppy blocking traffic in the city or suburbs.

Exactly. A very popular odor of marijuana used to be 'skunk', because it strongly resembled the skunk spray smell. So much so that 'skunk weed' became a huge meme. Back in the '90s, I believe.
