This was always the most horrific scene in this film for me, because I could weirdly relate to it. I can't relate to being consumed by a firestorm or succumbing to radiation or witnessing the collapse of civilization. But I can relate to that awful sinking gut feeling when something horrible has happened or is about to happen and can't be stopped. Like when you find out a loved one is dead or your partner tells you they don't love you anymore and you just know nothing will ever be the same again. I actually got that feeling watching this scene because I knew what these character would feel when they watch the news get scarier and scarier but still can reassure themselves with the knowledge that, at the end of the day, nothing that bad could happen to themselves or their loved ones, because nothing that bad has ever really happened to them. But then to actually see those missiles in the air, to realise with an oppressive sense of finality that no, this is actually happening and nothing will ever be the same again, that feeling must be so surreal, and that's what hit me watching that scene.
First time I saw a chemtrail, thats how thick they were, day after Fukushima quake.
They were so big and so thick, they literally looked just like that extending up from the ground. Thought they started shooting for a moment before realizing no one was reacting.
made the lithgow face for a good minute standing on the porch.
