MYTH...SHARKS DO NOT SMELL BLOOD IN THE WATER

submitted by Zyklonbeekeeper to HDLunited 5 monthsNov 13, 2024 18:43:37 ago (+11/-5)     (HDLunited)

Another academic untruth.

Sharks detect the reactive mixture of blood and salt water.

When blood and salt water combine it creates a chemical reaction with a "sizzling" effect that sharks can hone in on with their complex sensory system located in their snout...they're not picking up the scent.

Most of everything that (((academia))) has put out in the last 80 years is a lie.

If you put blood in the sea, sharks will find it. Whatever academic bullshit you call it, the end result is the same.

Accurate, but autistic.

It's one of the many lazy explanations we get about things, because it's easier and it's close enough.

It is technically different from the smell/taste sense because there is no direct physical interaction between the blood and shark's sensory system. It senses the electromagnetic chemical reaction between the water and blood.

For 99.9% of people "sharks can smell blood" describes it perfectly. It's overly pedantic to call this an untruth. It's just a simple approximate that avoids a silly long technical discussion about the exact definition of "smell".

But your overall premise is technically correct. The best kind of correct. People won't like that.

and if you remove the blood from the reaction what happens?

@i_scream...etc, "beyond meat"

Falling from a great height doesn't kill you. It is the sudden stop that does it. lol

lol, that is pretty much OP in this thread.

We’re gonna need a bigger boat….

I know everything I need to know about sharks from Quint.

[ - ] con77 2 points 5 monthsNov 13, 2024 21:45:24 ago (+2/-0)

They can also sense urine which they use to hunt prey

[ - ] bosunmoon 2 points 5 monthsNov 13, 2024 21:43:53 ago (+2/-0)

I fuck sharks.

[ - ] UncleDoug 4 points 5 monthsNov 13, 2024 20:34:15 ago (+4/-0)

States sharks don’t smell, then continues to describe exactly how smell sensory organs work.

[ - ] Belfuro 4 points 5 monthsNov 13, 2024 23:09:23 ago (+4/-0)

Sigh.
Smell is detecting trace chemicals carried my a medium.

Sharks pick up electro magnetic waves generated from a chemical (electro magnetic) reaction.

No smell... BUDDY

[ - ] i_scream_trucks 2 points 5 monthsNov 13, 2024 23:46:14 ago (+3/-1)

holy fucking shit is this the new flat earth or what?

[ - ] Belfuro 1 point 5 monthsNov 14, 2024 13:51:02 ago (+1/-0)

Do you know that chemicistry is electro magnetism?

That youy eyes see electro magnetic waves?

That the reason why whales beached for so many years because they navigated magnetically and our poles had begun to flip?

[ - ] UncleDoug 2 points 5 monthsNov 14, 2024 05:26:28 ago (+2/-0)

The medium is water and you might also be describing Ampullae of Lorenzini.

[ - ] Portmanure 13 points 5 monthsNov 13, 2024 19:02:26 ago (+13/-0)

But that is the process sharks use to detect blood in the water, it’s the process they use to sense blood in the water, and this function is called “smell”

...the sizzling causes a frequency

[ - ] Portmanure 11 points 5 monthsNov 13, 2024 19:06:39 ago (+11/-0)

Kind of like the neurons in your sense of smell reacting to an odor molecule

[ - ] Zyklonbeekeeper [op] 0 points 5 monthsNov 14, 2024 15:47:44 ago (+0/-0)

Hey Portman...can you visibly see the current moving through your breaker panel, do your neurons detect the scent of current, what does it smell like? Grounding out while pinching the positive lead between your fingertips will prove the sizzle analogy...long distance detection comes from the shark's receptor neurons which are acutely sensitive to low-energy electron diffraction. (LEED)...it's the "feel" of the "sizzle tingle" that drives the shark into a frenzy not smell or stench.
Actually all fish have the same physiological neuro complexity but not as refined as the shark, which is why there's fishing lures that emit a frequency through vibration ie the fluorescent red or green "VIBREX" lures by Mepps and also the trout lure "panther" .

One last thing...and I do stand to be corrected, but, odor has no molecular structure, it's comprised of atoms...I'm not going to query this shit because of the fact that I think I'm right, if I'm wrong then fuck it, I'll still consider myself right.

[ - ] i_scream_trucks 1 point 5 monthsNov 13, 2024 23:45:08 ago (+1/-0)

caused by the addition of blood.

theres a reason shark fishers use chum. it works. those dumbasses will eat themselves if they get injured bad enough.

[ - ] HelenHighwater 11 points 5 monthsNov 13, 2024 18:54:50 ago (+12/-1)

Okay. So sharks can like smell blood in the water. Got it, Mr. Fucking Pedantic.

HEY HEY HEY, wait a minute, I'm trying to educate people here, this is very impotent infirmation that everyone should know before taking a shower

[ - ] HelenHighwater 1 point 5 monthsNov 13, 2024 19:19:03 ago (+1/-0)

Just don't talk about toilet snakes, and we'll be cool.

That's f'd up.

@HelenHighwater ...back in August while working Toronto, after work I get to the RV where I'm staying and buddy right next to me comes barreling out of his RV cussing and fuming and he's holding a big fucking rat, this thing was the size of a small cat, and I fucking hate rats, buddy is in a craze, that rat came up from the toilet, he was just getting out of the shower and heard some banging under the toilet seat and when he lifted it the fucking rat leaped but buddy, in panic mode slams the lid down and pins the filthy vermine but it's still well alive and he doesn't want to let up on the lid, he beat the fuck out of it with a Listerine bottle that was in arms reach on the sink...the fucking rat had chewed into the service drain at the extract coupler...and that's not the first time I've heard of that. But that's one of my nightmare peeves, along with snakes and scorpions in my pack or boots

[ - ] HelenHighwater 2 points 5 monthsNov 13, 2024 20:19:37 ago (+2/-0)

I will live on with your heinous images in my head.
