I’d love to know more about the Army Reserve. They’ve done a great job keeping that information off the internet.
One weekend per month? Who among us wouldn’t want to be trained by the military with such minimal commitment? Feel free to refute this as I could be dead wrong here.
One major caveat to these reserve forces such as the National Guard & I'm assuming the Army Reserve is you do NOT qualify for Veterans benefits except under very specific conditions, because it's not considered "active duty". This is something they do their best to hide from potential recruits, who are often shocked when they reach the point when they need to use them. The only way you qualify for VA benefits is if you were "activated" during your enlistment, i.e. sent into a combat theater, and even then there are very strict guidelines and timeframes as to what will qualify as "activation". Had an extended family member who did 10 yrs Nat Guard who was told to pound sand after he tried to access the VA for medical care. He was even activated once briefly during his enlistment for a domestic terrorism operation, but they wouldn't count it. Left him totally high and dry and extremely pissed off.
