A few things about your post.

1. The numbers are exaggerated.

If you buy your watches from a reputable Authorized Rolex Dealer like I do and not some 47th Street Jew arbitrage scumbag, you would have paid around $11,500 for that watch, so brand new and unworn, it is still worth several thousand more than the purchase price.

2. I don't buy my watches as an investment. I buy them because I love to wear them. My watches are scratched to hell. \\

3. The watch pictured is the GMT "Sprite" and to my knowledge, the most it ever sold for on the secondhand market was in the mid 20K range. It was a hot watch when it released, but is less desirable now.

4. I have no intention of selling my watches, so I generally don't pay much attention to resale prices. I don't buy watches to Jew them away and never wear them. I keep 1 or 2 on hand for daily wear and the others in my bank safe and swap them out like once a month.

I'm looking for an Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch with the 3861 movement.
Any particular retailer you would recommend?
I haven't bought a watch since my Breitling several years ago.

OK, I just checked and Omega still makes that movement, so just buy it straight from them. Don't go looking for a discount with a reseller and get yourself into hot water with a clone or a frankenwatch Most of these resellers recklessly and gleefully open these watches up and then handle them with no finger cots on. Their watchmakers are not going to give it any TLC or amplitude adjustments. Just buy yourself a brand new one from Omega.

I had no idea that there is waiting list for a Speedy. Are you sure? I feel like you should be able to just walk into an Omega boutique and grab one.

If you can't get one new, then look into retailers with a brick and mortar store and a reputation to protect. My number one suggestion would then be Tourneau/Carl Bucherer. Preferably someone without a Tik Tok or a Youtube. A lot of people shop Bob's Watches or David SW, as well. Still, I would feel safer with Tourneau/Bucherer.

There is more than one sapphire version.
I respect classic black, but I prefer to move away from the painted indexes. The lacquered white has both an applied logo and indexes that I think should be standard moving forward.
As far as I'm aware the waiting list is only for the white.

I have a tag heueur automatic chronograph Carrera. Paid like 5 k for it. Many years ago. Sits in the closet. Now I wear like a 200$ Samsung watch. Lol

The Carrera has a lot of fans, but I'm not into it. The only Tag I like is the Monaco because it has some real heritage to it and looks a little funky. I like the Gulf one. Right now, I'm broke from a bad investment, so I can't buy anything. I got called by Watches of Switzerland for a Rolex I want and I had to turn it down because while I really love watches, I hate debt, so I wasn't going to charge it.

Swiss clock makers were the best. And one of them invented the first music machines. I own an 1892 Regina Music Box. This led to others creating practical music machines, leading to Gramophones, then modern record players. On and on it goes. Society is degraded, but good technology is on a roll. Thanks Swis dudes!
