I don’t have a jew book. Im an atheist. With a christian background. You shouldn’t assume that I’m Christian just because I am against moral chaos. When tribes agree on “critical facets”, why isn’t that a collective management of the moral compass? You think that’s what I meant by defining our own moral compasses? I meant the individual does not define the moral compass.

If a tribe/nation/society is collectively defining its morals, values, taboos— yes, that’s obviously collective managemnet of moral policy and not letting everyone “define their own moral compass.” All tribes and nations do this, whether they use books or not. Books allow for a more faithful snapshot of a tribe’s beliefs and moral policys to be transmitted to future generations. But it isn’t required. Moral policy and culture are an average behavior created by the genetics of many individuals.

Ok then maybe I decide its fine to murder people, or have sex with kids. Why can’t I do this? Is it because— book or no book— people would kill me or do grave harm to me? Part of our moral behavior is due to instinct (genetics) and the rest of our moral compass looks to the behaviors and beliefs of others in our society to fill in the blanks. We instinctually understand that going against group taboos is dangerous to us because of mob justice.

If someone wants to have sex with kids, they have to hide it. Most people will try to edit their own moral compass to fit in / be safe. The taboo against sex with kids is so strong in our culture, most people will not even consider whether they want to do it, or if it makes sense to do so. Sex with kids is an extreme example of a taboo, but it works the same with racism or drug use or the clothes we wear. It is very hard to hold beliefs that run counter to group policies, even if they are private beliefs. It is dangerous to do so, because the mob can come after any individual for being a “heretic” on any position ( in the broad sense) .

The basic dynamics of group moral behavior are universal. It’s not particular to judaism or christianity. Group moral behavior was shaped by our evolution, not the israelites. For instance, many atheists exemplify “puritanical” intolerance and proselytizing and crusading behaviors around their belief systems towards Christians. Its as if the “belief machine” in our craniums are a mad-lib. You can swap out Yahweh narritives for scientific establishment narratives, but you will still see analogous behaviors.

Morals are mostly genetic instinctual behaviors that evolved to benefit a group selection strategy. Humans are collectivists, not solitary animals. Everything you do affects my economic and reproductive potential. Group selection doesn’t work well if you are murdering members of your own tribe or having sex with its kids. There’s genetic variation in every group, so culture helps to manage that variation (i.e. some individuals want to have sex with kids but are threatened by retribution from the group.) Again, Im using pedophilia as an extreme example. Pot use also threatens group selection strategy, though the taboo is much weaker. Its the same principle. Why should I throw in with you economically (as in a tribe) if you choose to waste our group resources on pot? The point is, all moral choices affect the group, and more efficient groups will proscribe more moral choices to gain a competitive edge or improve group well being. I like to call that strategy “Whiteness”, but its not really exclusive to Whites.


Free will is fake and gay. Its a religious superstition. Our behavior is based on genetics and environment.

It think I did answer this comment originally but the browser gobbled up my reply when it logged me out. I don’t like it when atheists try to smear and humiliate Christians as “heretics” while simultaneously trying to paint them as irrational. Its contradictory, you know? You should think about how morality works in the context of evolution instead of focusing on Christians as mean or hung up, as a lot of atheists do. You seem to hate books for some reason. I don’t know why. Charles Darwin wrote a book. The romans and greeks kept written laws. Why can’t we write down what we agree on?
