Telephone tech for 20 years. Sit around this fire and hear my tale. We once had standards. People ran businesses that prided itself on voice quality for phone calls. Demanded that calls were always answered. And the features, oh boy, secretaries and receptionists memorized dozens, nay hundreds of features. Parking calls, blind transfer, call pickup group. Talent, skill, quality. We were kings of comms.
Then came mobile twinning. Suddenly shitty voice quality became acceptable. Businesses adjusted. Voicemail, always people's fear, shunned.
Ugh.
Then covid hit. Within one year Microsoft teams took 50% market share in usa.
Featureless, buggy, subscription model fucking teams (and zoom did the same in europe)

wow, this is interesting, I had to check if true, and yes, grew by 894% in total from March to June 2020, 500% increase in use in China during Coronavirus, in Italy increased by 775% during social distancing measures for 2020, etc etc https://usesignhouse.com/blog/microsoft-teams-users/
I think it's a way of people in different locations having an e-meeting.
Edit: I think your question shouldn't have had "for". I now think you know why people use zoom (for) but question why they use it given it apparently contains spyware.

As for Zoom, most or all of the video-appearance court cases I've seen use Zoom.
