I was in restaurant for most of my life because I saw it as easy money right away. Once covid happened, I said fuck this industry it will be ruined and it is.
I switched to tech always wanted to just didn't see the money. Now it's booming wildly. Picked it up right away maybe because I have German blood. I became a test technician within a year and a half which is uncommon.
I just got field service engineer where I'm shy under six figures and I couldn't be happier.
I did white lies on my resume and just geared it towards the job. Grocery parcel? No I was maintenance for the bottle return and lifts. Daycare? No I helped with HVAC and toilet plumbing.
It's hard to fill field service positions because most people don't want to do the travelling and dealing with customers who have something broken. I would not recommend telling lies on the resume, as it is fraud, and eventually it will catch up to you when an employer does a background check.
They liked mostly my customer service experience which was all valid. I only exaggerated maintenance to seem like I know it more than the years I've done. Although it was easy to pick up for me people even asked of what cars I worked on.
I'm in a relationship but it's mostly on site field service I'd be happy to go on vacation to somewhere for a week or two and that's what it sounds like.
Edit - and I'm a newbie I'm sure I'm going to be the "can you go here for us" guy for a while. Which I'm okay with.
I have a tech degree. When I was still working for other people the majority of my job entailed following the maintenance crews jobs to tell the controllers what sensors the maintenance crew installed. Maybe reset a vfd, entry level stuff.
They paid me just over six figures to do that. The other 80% of my day I was researching and following my own projects that I chose for myself.
Most people hiring tech guys right now are boomers who never bothered to learn that stuff.
