That's not living, that's patiently waiting to die.

Honestly that it pretty sad.

I hope that isn't true for most of you.

I had to do this for 8 months because I was broke, it sucked ass, I can't sleep on air mattresses anymore because of it.

Where are the books? I need books, and I can live without a giant fucking monitor. Video games are a waste of your life and suck your soul away.

All the books of the world fit onto your phone as ebooks. There's no reason for physical books anymore.

[ - ] Lost_In_The_Thinking 2 points 6 monthsOct 20, 2024 10:39:10 ago (+2/-0)

False. There are many, many books that don't exist as ebooks.

[ - ] NeverHappened 2 points 6 monthsOct 20, 2024 11:26:09 ago (+2/-0)

Agreed. And there is something about holding the physical copy that I enjoy. I hope my eyesight never fails me.

If they existed, they would fit, though. Luckily, I never encountered this problem.

I have to carry a phone anyway and I like the form factor for reading. E-ink sucks, since the refresh rate is too low. The great thing about reading on a phone is that you can scroll for every line you read, so you always continue reading at the top. I can get distracted and go do something else immediately withouth having to finish reading a page or failing that starting at the beginning of a page again. It's great. I always read when there's a free minute and if I get distracted 30s in it doesn't really matter.

Before I started reading on my phone I still used books and I could never manage to get any reading done since the smallest feasible unit of reading was a full page.

But with a phone I can go to the kitchen and put something in a pan, then read a bit, go back to cooking a bit, then read a bit again. Total game changer for how much reading I get done. And I don't even have to set away special time. I just use all the moments in life that I spent waiting before. Want to go out with someone else and you already got your shoes on while the other person is still not ready? Just whip out my phone and read. Throughout a week it is incredible how many opportunities to read you get.

you're trying to convince me that reading on a small screen is a good thing, its not working

you also want to convince me that reading needs a high refresh rate. You can read at a refresh rate of 1.

[ - ] Wahaha 0 points 6 monthsOct 20, 2024 15:56:52 ago (+0/-0)

I need the higher refresh rate so I can scroll fast. 60Hz are completely sufficient. I don't need anything crazy like 350Hz. The problem with e-readers I tried is that you can't scroll line per line, so you can't keep the next unread line at the top of the display. If you cannot do that you also can't stop reading and return 20s later and pick up exactly where you left off.

[ - ] Kozel 0 points 6 monthsOct 20, 2024 16:07:37 ago (+0/-0)

you don't scroll on an ebook

you press next page and you scroll using your eyes like on a real book

if you turn it off and turn it back on its also in the same spot

you're ruining your eyes and your neck reading that shit on a phone

[ - ] Wahaha 0 points 6 monthsOct 20, 2024 16:43:41 ago (+0/-0)

That's exactly the problem with books. You have to read them page for page instead of line by line. That's why reading on a phone is so much better: you can read line by line.

E-readers retain this disadvantage of books, which makes them useless to me.

yeah until your back breaks from sleeping on that piece of shit. I'd rather sleep on the floor.

[ - ] NeverHappened 0 points 6 monthsOct 20, 2024 11:25:03 ago (+0/-0)

I do sleep on the floor by choice. Better for my back. It is carpeted however and sometimes I use a futon mattress.

I dunno, I haven't watched TV for 12 years and am much happier for it tbh. Throw that thing out of the picture and perhaps also the air bed.

[ - ] puremadness 3 points 6 monthsOct 20, 2024 03:30:03 ago (+3/-0)

dont be silly, thats for the computer

[ - ] Nosferatjew 8 points 6 monthsOct 20, 2024 05:55:57 ago (+8/-0)

Air mattresses like that are garbage, not having a chair sucks, tv is non-essential, and appartment living is terribly inferior to owning land and a house.

This is just live-in-a-pod, you-will-own-nothing-and-be-happy propganda disguised as a male stoicism meme.

I rate this meme fake and gay.
