Okay, frens, let's talk about kick ass albums (33-1/3) CD, or digital release. I am talking cover to cover masterpiece.

I realized how hard this is now that I was going to go first:

Genesis - Trick of the tail. Old. Well old to me. Amazing cover to cover.

Spot-on.

I should have also mentioned : Richard Wagner - Lohengrin

I've listened to a lot of Wagner, but never Lohengrin. I even own a vinyl copy of "Die Meistersinger", but I haven't listened to it much, and not in the last 30 years. Wagner is ... challenging, but very rewarding. His tendency to modulate or change key frequently can be a barrier to a lot of people, but when one understands what he's doing and how his approach to opera differs from traditional opera, it makes sense and it's quite beautiful. His use of leitmotif was revolutionary. Wagner is interesting because his music doesn't have a arias and recititive like most operas do, it's just a long flow of music.

I believe he wrote the longest opera (Die Meistersinger, which takes about five hours to perform (that's not counting intermissions), and I think the longest operatic solo is Brünnhilde’s 20-minute immolation scene from “Götterdämmerung.” That's a commitment for everyone involved, including the audience.

Modern folk masterpiece, incredible and succinct ideas in each track. This album has been on every device I’ve owned for past 20 years it seems. Great for listening to on top of a mountain or at a European meat market/deli.

ELO - Time

Except for maybe the last song because it is all happy sounding for no reason and doesn't fit at all. But it is a good song. But it belongs elsewhere; not opinion: FACT!
[EDIT: Second to last track on this one... I forgot about the epilogue]

ELO. Shit, I haven't listened to them (headphones only). I recall lots of songs about telephones, and some reverse talking.

Oh, and if anyone is interested bump, etc. I am really looking forward to finding some new music!

There are a lot of great albums here, some I never would have thought of. Since I posted, I thought of some more:

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon (and I really don't like Pink Floyd, but this album is brilliant)

Beach Boys - Pet Sounds

Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin IV (despite the horribly overplayed "Stairway to Heaven")

Ringo Starr - Ringo

Harry Nilssen - Nilssen Schmillsen

Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (only album I like by that fudge packer)

Brian Eno - Ambient 1, Here Come the Warm Jets

Special mentions (not quite masterpieces):

Steely Dan - Aja

The Police - Synchronicity

I love that people are posting the beach boys. They basically had a monopoly on the sound, and for good reason. I would put pet sounds against 'endless summer'. It would be an interesting competition.

Sublime - Sublime

Wow. A great list. My opinon fwiw Brand New can't hang.

Alice in Chains is a drug fueled masterpiece.

I need to process the rest, objectively.

Anything Uriah Heep

Death’s entire discography is perfect. My personal top album of theirs is “Symbolic”. The lyrics are nothing short of excellent and not what you eould expect from a band named “Death”. Exceptional drumming.

Damn. I checked them out. Not my wheelhouse. I had a friend heavy into cannibal corpse. Made my listen to them a lot, i finally tapped out. Super pure music genre, though.
