I Had To Turn Down a Rolex Today

I got the call earlier today. I was on a waitlist for over a year for a watch in Rose Gold and Steel. With NYS Sales Tax, it would have cost me $17,850 and I just don’t have the money laying around. I had some medical stuff to take care of earlier this year and it entirely depleted my watch fund.

My old Authorized Dealer used to let me lay them away with 1/3 or 1/2 down and pay it off in like under 6 months and then pick it up, but the ADs in Manhattan have too many wealthy clients to be nickel and diming with some middle class guy from Queens. I was willing to put down $9K, but it was all or nothing with these guys. I’m absolutely not using credit or financing. Fuck that.

My net worth is over one million as of about 12 months ago. This is due to the equity in my properties, my income and the value of my share in the S Corp business I own. Also, I have a hefty life insurance policy. In my line of work I am not required to dress extravagantly, although I do own a few fine American made suits for when I need to. Sometimes I wear one of my many $150 silk shirts when it’s needed. I turned in my 306k mile F-150 a year ago for a new F-150, because it was time.

It’s fine you collect watches, if you can afford them. I collect firearms and such. We all need hobbies. The Op is a broke dick weasel who was asking for cash donations here about six months ago. He’s a loser.

I also collect firearms, and there are plenty of affordable watches that are worth collecting.

Half of my twenty watch collection is G-Shock, many of which look great with a suit.

My cheap daily drivers are in the $25-50k range. The top shelf stuff is $220-500k.

Rolexes are a general joke in the collector world, because they're what every retard real estate agent and/or aspiring stock broker buys to show everyone else they've made it. That $5k Rolex serves to both make you a target for niggers while also letting others laugh at you behind your back for wasting money on the trendy selection.

I have other watches besides Rolexes. I love watches in general and get some enjoyment from inexpensive ones, as well. Rolexes are timeless and not trendy. They only release like 5 or 6 new models every year. While Rolex is not high horology, they’re extremely reliable and have heritage.

My next watch will likely be Glasshutte or an Omega.

What watches do you have? Why don’t you post some pics of them on the wrist? You sound like a Patek guy. Maybe a Breguet guy.

I don’t like Tourbillons and Skeletons. I can have a partial skeleton, but it wouldn’t be my first choice. I like Annual Calendars, but they’re very expensive. My grail watch is a 40mm Platinum Rolex Day/Date with a fluted bezel and an ice blue dial. Ref#228206. Unfortunately, I’ll never have $100K for a wristwatch.

Not really a chronograph guy. I’m not timing anything. I have considered the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch and the Tag Heuer Monaco Gulf Edition, though. I don’t like the Rolex Daytona because I want a date function. I think the Speedy is better than the Daytona, anyway.

I have a GMT Master II that I bought in 1999, and a couple vintage Oyster Perpetuals (34mm, 36mm), but I'd never buy anything Rolex at retail, or the crazy second-hand market.
I want a Milgauss, but I'm not buying one until I see at least a 20% discount, from the AD.
