Leavened bread can also be seen as an unnecessary indulgence seen as all yeast in bread really does is add air to a bread and as a traveling people the utility of space was most important. Think of how much space a cracker takes up compared to a slice of bread.

In the gospels it took a while for the disciples to grasp the idea that the ordinary meaning of leaven wasn't the message of the parable. The meaning related to the conflict between idealism and political influence.

Well of course for that goes back to my original point in that the softness and not to mention at for a very long time degradable comfort of leavened bread should in harsh times be sacrificed for the practically of essentially hard tack. I apologise if I'm misinterpreted but the theme seems to be prepare an uncomfortable future instead of a comfortable present. In political terms you have to put up with bad times and let the state lose legitimatecy on a longer time period than just take the comfort of fed posting content.
