I was just thinking about this. I'm 1/4 Irish patrilineal line, not sure how much before that but from what I understand they were all Irish catholic back generations since leaving Ireland. My last name is Irish (or scottish depending on who you ask) but another 1/4 to half of my ancestry is Celtic. So even though I have freckled skin and reddish tinge in my beard, I'm at the most only 1/4 Irish, so am I still considered Irish?
Unrelated, but met my wife in Ireland when we were both vacationning there. She's French, but with definite celtic teutonic roots.

The phenotype not being Irish does not mean the child is not 1/4th Irish. Statistically that chance is too low, as the parents' non-phenotypal genes have a high chance to be more Irish than they appear (1/4 Whites that do not look White tend to have children that do)

Genetic testing takes into account variables unknown to the Irish themselves. It is even perhaps -too- accurate.

Behaviour is a part of phenotyping yes, but only complements a general view. Mimicry only goes so far. The classical jew nose job does not cover the whole gamma of behaviour issues, for example, but would be a welcome change to someone who phenotypically looks only partially Irish and has absorbed their culture fully.
