how do I recover a file (word doc) document that I deleted on android

submitted by anon to askanon 7 monthsOct 4, 2024 19:02:43 ago (+2/-0)     (askanon)

Its old and all I can find is diskdigger to find it but it seems to only work if the device is rooted. Also I hear there is something called Cellbrite data salvaging agencies used but I don't even know where and how to start with it. Being its an older device I should be able to find it

What do police use to find all that cp buried on smrt phones?

jk they produce the cp themselves and then plant it.

From what I read they use something called Cellbrite

Check for a recovery app, be careful it's not for hacking

According to this diskdigger only works if rooted https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2gE4BvwDwk

android? you're probably fucked.

Specifically, the NAND memory used by smartphones (and modern computers) is often more quickly rewritten than spinning hard drives were. Moreover, the “blackbox” nature of the architecture makes it unlikely that you’ll be able to run file recovery software on a phone.

Is this a good or bad thing? Cause right now I'm kinda screwed but it is a much much older android device

If you stopped using it immediately after noticing that the file had been deleted AND it hadn’t been too long since the deletion, it’s possible file recovery software can find it (if it hasn’t been overwritten). There are options–some free, some not. They’ll probably require the phone to be plugged into a computer, though.

Please can you suggest some software aside from disk digger. Also it seems this old device could try imaging the NAND and running a recovery software that can read ext4 on it. But how would I go about it?

Oh, there’s an idea. Good thinking. Is it rooted, though? If it is, Titanium Backup is probably what you want to get that exact drive copy. If not… I don’t think anything can read the free space to copy it out.

If the file was deleted and any significant amount of time has passed, it's more than likely gone, unless the device was never used after deletion.

Its hasn't been 24 hours yet

how much free space on the drive?

like skil said, though, nand is not hd, it's probably unrecoverable.

I don't know but I'll tell you one thing you don't want to turn the device on until you have figured out a solution. Just turning the device on means it's going to go online and it's going to start rewriting its memory as it downloads and recasious and does all these other things. So you don't want it to have any reason to rewrite or have any ability to rewrite its memory. Whatever you use is probably going to work on a PC and you're going to connect your turned off phone to the PC and then you're going to turn it on and then it's going to try to read your internal memory. But if you've left it on and it's automatically downloading stuff in the background like they all do and it's rewriting stuff the chance of you getting that back is nil.

The other thing you can do is if you have expanded the memory with like an SD card or something like that then it's possible that it's written on the SD card especially if you've told the Android phone to do the majority of its memory work and downloads and other things on the external memory. In that case take the card out of the phone or the device and you might be able to use something else to read that and see it
