But the "most powerful computers ever" can't do it? And you can't blame it on the oldschool coding of DOOM, the work done to get that game released was PERFECT, everything was perfect. The coding is so stable that porting it to all varieties of electronics (not designed to play video games) is trivial to a moderately skilled coder.

This makes me wonder about AI. The shit that is available to the public has likely been around for a decade or longer; the real powerful ones, like a SkyNet or something, are reserved for glownigger use.
