Sober October

submitted by mannerbund to whatever 7 monthsOct 2, 2024 15:47:20 ago (+10/-0)     (whatever)

Don't forget about sober October, for those of you participating.

The last two weeks of September I only drank mildly on the weekend and was dry all week. For now the current goal is to stay dry for the rest of the month and then to re-evaluate how much I consume thereafter.

Be strong goats.

I'm at 99 days today. Only 265 left to go before I can even think about having a beer.

Good job Perry. Early sobriety sucks. For me it finally got easy. I just got 2 years. I absolutely love waking up without a hangover and enjoying some good coffee. I don't want to waste another minute of life drunk. Hang in there my friend. I remember how hard it was. I'm proud of you!

Thanks bro! It's actually been a lot easier than I thought. It's all the other shit that sucks donkey dicks. Pretty sure I'm about to fail rehab, I keep getting mouthy with the pussy ass faggot counselors.

You can't fail rehab, but you can repeat it.

Hopefully you will lose the urge forever

Very good! I've been a lot more productive without it. I was drinking more days than not.

A little story to help you good folks make it.

I was around 14 or 15 when this happened. I had a great uncle that was a drunk. He was in his 60's. He had just gotten out of the hospital. He had wrecked his car because he was drunk. His best friend and drinking partner died in the wreck! My peace of shit great uncle was setting there on my grandpa's couch drunk already and it was 11am in the morning! I was stuck "babysitting" his old ass. He was setting there with his shirt unbuttoned because it was hot in the house. His whole entire chest and big ol fat belly was solid black with green and blue around the edges. Then this lowlife turned up his bottle for another drink. The booze spilled out the sides of his mouth and poured all down that fat nasty brused black body! Made me sick. I had to get outside and breathe fresh air before I puked.
And That's the story of how peleg Knew, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that I would NEVER EVER be a drunk!

Those are hard lessons to learn remotely, the visual of your uncle burns into your mind in a way stories just can't do. Thanks for sharing though. My family is mostly a sober one, I've tended to be the drunk one the last year or two.

Do you lose all self-control once you start drinking? You can't nurse a beer for an hour?

[ - ] mannerbund [op] 0 points 7 monthsOct 3, 2024 09:38:13 ago (+0/-0)

It can be hard to stop once I start. I don't quite lose all self control, but I do struggle to maintain it. Nursing a beer over an hour isn't terribly hard, but it can be harder to stop at that one beer.

So long as you keep it to a pint per hour you can't get drunk. (At least, not if your liver is functioning normally.) Your body will process one drink's worth of alcohol per hour.

Any source for this?

https://www.addictioncenter.com/alcohol/how-long-is-alcohol-in-your-system/

The body generally processes approximately one standard drink per hour. If you have 5 standard drinks, it will take 5 hours for your body to process the alcohol.

Note that this does put a load on your system, so it's not good to do too much or too often. But it will keep you from getting drunk.

Edit: Pint is more than one "standard drink", it's more like 1.25.
