So, if oil goes to $200/brl, how much will the US pay for a barrel of oil that's produced in the US or Canada? That's right, $200.

The closure of the straights doesn't mean that we don't get oil. It means the price of the oil that we do get will skyrocket, along with the cost of every good or service that depends on energy to produce or provide.

Oil is a global market. If there's shortage due to supply cutoffs, it'll increase the global price. Doubt it'll happen though because demand is down due to China and US economies being in the shitter

The threats against Iranian oil is an empty one, and it won't be Israel that closes the straights. It will be Iran and they will do it by sinking ships in the straights to prevent easy transitions through the straights.

There is no "American" oil market. Even if the US was self sufficient, which it is not, the price of oil is a global price. Shortages in Europe will drive prices in the US up, as well.

The US is a net exporter which is a very good thing, it balances out the energy trade. However you're correct, different grades of oil go to different purposes. The big advantage America has though is plentiful natural gas fields that produce tremendous amounts.

But again, just like oil, natural gas is on a global market. We are shipping massive amounts of LNG to Europe because they cut off Russia. If energy prices explode because of this crisis, the price of LNG will explode with it. And, if we don't maintain European supply lines, Europe will just go back to Russia to get their LNG at what would be a discount.

Before this counter strike, Europe was already paying 40% more for LNG than they were before Russia was sanctioned.
