When he starts brushing the back of his paw off under its snout, then you'll know he's assimilated.

Showed this to my dogs and they just looked me like, "Nope. Don't get one woof. Can't make hide nor hair of it. We don't speak eye-talian."
"We'll go out and holler at the messi-can dogs at the next place over, though. See what they say."

They might get the gist, those beaner pups. Both romance languages.

It always worked for me.

Whenever I was in Italy, I just spoke Spanish at 'em, and added extra vowels to the ends of some words, and they understood me just fine.

My sweet little pup "talks" to us like this. Only she speaks with a southern redneck accent. LOL

Some dogs will try to imitate their owners' speech. My dad had a dog that would do that when he got upset, like when he accidentally got closed in a bathroom by himself and no one knew he was there. When he was let out, he lectured everyone in his "human" voice not to let that happen again.
