I get really tired of these videos about how cool and great 70s kids were. It was like that for me in the 60s and 70s, and my parents, born in the 1930s, told me they grew up in the same way.

When the late boomers and Gen Xers (born from about 1958 to about 1969) started having children, they thought they invented parenting and treated their children like they were the most special, precious, and fragile things in the whole world and the phenomenon of "helicopter parenting" was started. Play dates and structured leisure time for children was also a thing, making kids neurotic, eroding their confidence by not allowing them to be kids, like previous generations had done.
