We don't need to. Salvation is through faith in Christ alone, not through works.

So what is repentance then? Works based salvation vs salvation based works. Obedience has always been the response to the accepted goodness of God.

Repentance brings you in line with Christ and the Christian philosophy, not the OT.

What did Christ teach? Something new? He taught Deuteronomy 6:4 and Leviticus 19:18 as the most important rules of the kingdom. Christian philosophy is a rejection of rabbinic and talmudic judaism.

Eating without washing your hands is not and never was a sin. Adding to God's law or taking away from God's law are just as much a sin as murder or eating pork.

No one ever earned their salvation. Deuteronomy 9 clearly states that our righteousness does not earn us the things that God has already promised.

Repentance is due to being a new creature, but your Salvation is not dependent upon it. The desire to please God is not enforced, like in the law, but is a gift that results from Salvation.
