Nothing new. IDF has done this many times before.

(I remember reading about them doing the same ~25 years ago with some of the earlier cell phones.)

They give a cell phone (or other portable communication device) to an informant. It's modified to include a small explosive charge. That informant passes it to the target network ... eventually the phone ends up in the hands of someone important. (Or an innocent kid ... they don't really care.)

Then the IDF will monitor and then remotely detonate the explosive.

The informant who passed along these pagers is going to be disappeared by one side or the other very shortly, if it hasn't already happened.

I'm assuming tampered batteries or a way to overheat the battery and cause it to blow?

Those ebike/scooters etc caused a large bang and fire when I saw one pop, a tiny version of that in your pocket, near the family jewels? Yeah, it'll cause damage.

To my understanding, those were "encrypted phones" that were blowing up. Whether actual phones, pagers, or other similar devices, they must have had some kind of internet connection.

Samsung also released those exploding phones in 2016.

how is it terrorism if israel if intercepted a shipment paid by hezbollah? the only people carrying those pagers will be hezbollah members
