'Space', but within the Earth's atmosphere.

[ - ] dass 0 points 9 monthsSep 12, 2024 21:07:30 ago (+0/-0)

Yep, (HALO) High altitude Low Earth orbit - TOTES not 'space'.

[ - ] FreeinTX 0 points 9 monthsSep 12, 2024 22:13:27 ago (+0/-0)

Why wouldn't low earth orbit be considered "space"?

[ - ] dass 0 points 9 monthsSep 13, 2024 16:27:52 ago (+0/-0)

Normies and the space establishment consider it 'space' - but it is still within the confines of the Earth zone.

So, just making shit up. Got it.

[ - ] dass 1 point 9 monthsSep 13, 2024 21:18:31 ago (+1/-0)

Guess you also believe in the tens of thousands of geo-synchronous surveillance satellites supposedly orbiting the earth as well.
Good luck.

Cool, another fun thing for rich people.

[ - ] Master_Foo 1 point 9 monthsSep 12, 2024 18:28:07 ago (+1/-0)

Remember flat screen TVs?
Those were "fun things for rich people" too.
How many do you have now?

[ - ] Niggly_Puff 1 point 9 monthsSep 12, 2024 18:49:27 ago (+1/-0)

I worked at an eletronic store when HD tvs were new. It wasnt that big of a deal. Got my first flat screen, open box, 32 inch in 2006 for about $700.

[ - ] Master_Foo 2 points 9 monthsSep 12, 2024 19:02:33 ago (+2/-0)*

Back in 1997, a 20" flat screen TV would have been $10,000.
You couldn't buy them in electronics stores, because they would never be sold on a sales floor.
If you wanted one, you had to order it directly from the manufacturer at CES.
There was nearly a decade in which rich people were subsidizing an industry that poors like you could never afford, and they are the only reason you can now.
Because, otherwise, there would have never been any incentive for an industry to soak up the overhead for a whole decade.

It's the same with every bleeding edge technology.

Including rockets.

this.

I always assumed HDTVs became a thing in the early 00s. I asked llama 3

HDTVs (High-Definition TVs) started hitting the market in the late 1990s, but they didn't become widely available and affordable for consumers until the early 2000s.

Here are some key events that mark the progression of HDTVs to the mass market:

1998: The first HDTV sets were released in Japan, but they were extremely expensive, with prices ranging from $10,000 to $30,000.
2002: HDTVs started becoming more widely available in the US, with prices ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 for a 40-inch model.
2003: Plasma TVs, a type of HDTV, became more popular, with prices dropping to around $3,000 for a 42-inch model.
2004: LCD HDTVs emerged as a competitive technology, offering thinner and lighter sets with lower power consumption.
2005: HDTV prices continued to drop, with 40-inch models available for around $2,000.
2006: HDTVs became more mainstream, with prices falling to around $1,500 for a 40-inch model.
2008: The transition to digital broadcasting began in the US, making HDTVs even more appealing to consumers.

By around 2010, HDTVs had become the norm, and prices had dropped to the point where they were accessible to a wide range of consumers. Today, you can find 4K HDTVs (a higher resolution than traditional HDTVs) for under $500.

Keep in mind that these are rough estimates, and prices varied depending on factors like brand, model, and features.

Interesting.

I hear your point. But I don't believe rocktets will follow the same trajectory. Too much fuel is required. The only way plebs like us will even have a chance is if there is a new innovation making traditional rockets obsolete.

The new innovation that will unlock space travel will be the future race of Ubermensch.

You lack the Will to Power that the Ubermensch have.
They will have 2 space ships parked in their hangar, and one out in the barn, waiting to be restored.

[ - ] HonkyMcNiggerSpic [op] 0 points 9 monthsSep 12, 2024 21:25:29 ago (+0/-0)

This is true. Back in 2002-3? I bought a huge LCD and paid over 3K for it. It was a good while later that the prices started coming down.

[ - ] lord_nougat 1 point 9 monthsSep 12, 2024 19:13:29 ago (+1/-0)

Additionaly: TVs ARE FLAT!!!!!

[ - ] dass 1 point 9 monthsSep 12, 2024 21:05:48 ago (+1/-0)

Exactly - iirc he owns a payment service provider and also a defense contract Company that builds high end flight tech for the MIC.

But yea, just your everyday rich civilian.
