Thanks for listening! Shoegaze is my favorite music, for the most part. It originated in the UK back in the late 80’s. The lyrics, for the most part, are quite lovely. The “wall of sound” these live acts produce hits you as hard as a metal show!
Yet another sound I would most likely have never been exposed to otherwise.
Growing up in relative isolation was mostly awesome. The part that sucked was that I lived in a time warp where the 60s never really ended. Nothing new ever played on the radio. Nearly everything on Mtv seemed like superficial crap.
It wasn't until high school that I had any idea what I was missing. One of my buddies signed up for a mail order plan and started getting some great music mailed to him from "off of the island".
In the intervening time, however, a lot passed me by.
That sounds amazing, actually! Very nice, wholesome upbringing. The mail order CD plan was CLUTCH and I’m glad you were exposed! I didn’t get exposed to much of this till I started playing in bands in the city in my twenties. I met a ton of music snobs who thought they knew everything. A friend of mine was dating a guy from Scotland who thought everything about American music sucked. I was curious what he thought didn’t suck……and now it’s what I usually listen to; DAMN HIM! 😂
