Im trying to stay out of the habit of calling ancient Israelites/Hebrews jews. Jews are a modern group that is only partially related to helenized late second temple jews like Jesus and Paul. They are even less related to the original israelites from a millenium earlier. Some earlier group identifying as “sons of Israel” or “Ivrim” conquered a bunch of other tribes in Canaan. This may have occured under David or maybe even earlier. Those other people—goyim or gerim— were assimilated over several centuries. Some were assimilated faster than others. These people were hittites and philistines and amorites and edomites, etc. Most of the kings in the OT have this goyim blood, such as Davids line (his ancestor Ruth is a goy). By the time of Christ more or less every “native” canaanite is a hebrew. Early Judahism was also and “empire religion” that crossed tribal boundaries. The scale of that empire was limited to Canaan and a little beyond which was much smaller than the scale of the Roman empire which was the domain of early Christendom. But this early form of Judaism was expansionist like Christianity was and that tribal relatedness of the Hebrews at the time of Christ is something of an illusion. The “original” 12 tribes were not likely to have been closely related at all. The ethnogenesis of the Hebrew people of the OT is false. It was a fiction created by priests. They were not even patrilineally related. So Hebrew was an ethnicity created by conquest just as English ethnicity and French ethnicity. So the goyim of Canaan do in fact worship the Israelite god. They just became assimilated and forgot their earlier identities. You are making the mistake of assuming that the ethnogenesis of Hebrew described in the OT is accurate. It isn’t. How does a guy living in 500BC (when most of the bible was written) know who was related to whom in 1000 BC? They don’t.

Horsehit. Many pagans conquer and assimilate other groups and they spread their religions to those people. We KNOW this happens as the indo-european “steppe herder” culture spread across Europe from the pontic caspian steppe. Why did the Hindus worship Dyeus Piter and the Romans worship Diu Piter (Jupiter) and the Germanics worship Tiu? Its the same god. Steppe herders expanded in many directions and assimilated many groups. These admixed groups all formed new tribes.
The Germanics for example had two sets of gods: the Aesir and the Vanir. One group was from the IE invaders and one was from the farmer civilzation that predated them. You are deluded if you think the nature of pagan worship wasnt subservient and slavish. Caesar himself describes how the druids presided over a religion which required human sacrifice. Yawehism/ early judaism represented techtonic shift in religious behavior because of its monotheism. But it wasn’t the first example of a tyrannical religion. That is very naive.
